Travel Club trip #3 for the school year brought them to Springfield, IL on this cold Presidentā€™s Day weekend. They learned all the things about our 16th president by visiting the #AbrahamLincolnPresidentialLibraryAndMuseum followed by lunch at the adorable #6thStCafe and a brisk visit to the @lincolnhomenps (where they experienced a fire alarm!šŸšØ) and a final stop to pay their respects to Mr. Lincoln himself at his final resting place. It was a very early morning and a terribly brisk day, but Mrs. Hartman and Mrs. Johnson had so much fun with students learning what makes Illinois the Land of Lincoln šŸŽ©

As we round out #NationalSchoolCounselorWeek, it would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge the additional support of our school social worker, Sarah Peltier, and our school based therapist, Carrie Mahar. These two women have definitely impacted the lives of our students by creating another safe space to grow, learn, and succeed. Sarah Peltier - Social Worker How many years have you been at SHS? 3 Years What is a cherished memory at SHS? My favorite cherished memory as an SHS social worker is watching our life skills students perform at the annual life skills talent show. What is the best part about being a school counselor? The best part of being a school social worker is being a positive support for students as they struggle to navigate the day-to-day challenges of social life, family issues, mental health and academic stress. What is one thing you want SHS students to always remember? The biggest investment you can make is in yourself. ________________________________________________________________ Carrie Maher - School-Based Therapist How many years have you been at SHS? 2 Years What is a cherished memory at SHS? Everyday being able to celebrate successes of students, and students knowing that therapy is a safe space. What is the best part about being a school counselor? The best part about being a school based therapist is being able to provide students access to therapy while reducing barriers of traditional office based therapy. What is one thing you want SHS students to always remember? The healthiest people in the world are in therapy. Do not be ashamed to take care of your mental health. You are human and deserve to be the best version of yourself. If you've followed along with us this week, you know that SHS has an incredible support system for students. Thank you school counselors for all you do! #GoWarriors
