Washington Families,

We are off to a great start at Washington School and are excited to make our way into fall.

Last Friday, we recognized our Students of the Month for August and September; we are so fortunate to have such an amazing group of students! Students are also working towards behavioral goals, in conjunction with our PBIS program, and academic goals as they put plans in place to improve their STAR Reading and Math Goals. We are confident our students will continue to make strides in both academics and social/emotional regulation as we continue our year.

Our Community Food Drive pick-up is this Wednesday, October 5. Your student may bring nonperishable items to the office Tuesday/Wednesday.

We will have Fall Conferences Thursday, October 6, and the next week on Wednesday, October 12. Parent Teacher Conferences are from 3:30-7:00; please schedule a conference through Skyward or by calling the office at 815-625-2372.

This Thursday, the Franklin/Washington PTO will also have our monthly zoom meeting. We will discuss our fundraiser and upcoming Pumpkin Make/Take Event, scheduled for October 27th at Franklin School. Information about this event will be coming in the next weeks. All are welcome to attend! (https://sps5.zoom.us/j/8670035).

The Franklin/Washington PTO Fundraiser with Cherrydale Products has begun! All orders are placed online, and all products are delivered directly to the buyer. Students who participate are eligible for prizes and rewards. Our goal is to raise $20,000.00 for playground and school needs. It's as simple as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Register TONIGHT at www.ShopFund.com
  2. Share custom support links with family & friends via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Email, Text and more.
  3. Student Goal: 5 Online Supporters.

REGISTER-SHARE-WIN: Sharing gets you tickets for chances to win over $100,000 in instant prizes. Those fliers will be coming home today.

A reminder that this Friday, October 7, we will dismiss at 11:25; teachers will use the afternoon for School Improvement/New Learning. Washington Students will have Specials this Friday.

Washington School is excited to offer tutoring for our students; if you would like your student added to the list for reading or math tutoring services, please contact Principal Liz Engstrom at lengstrom@sps5.org to be placed on a list for scheduling.

Next Wednesday, October 12 is School Picture Day! This year, students will not bring home a form for orders -- instead, students will receive a postcard with their unique code, which families can then use to purchase photos online. School pictures will be taken by Persona this year.

Red Ribbon Week is held October 24-28. During this time, we encourage students to make positive choices related to health and safety. Fall Classroom parties will be held on Friday, October 28th. These parties will not have parents in attendance, but you can sign up to bring a treat, game, or goodie bags with your student's homeroom teacher. They will be sending home information related to these events. On the 28th, students may dress in their costume, if they choose, or can wear fall colors. Costumes should not include weapons, weapon toys, blood, or anything overly scary.

Thank you for sharing your amazing students with us -- it is a joy to spend our days with them at Washington School. Please reach out with any questions or concerns! Your feedback is always appreciated.

Liz Engstrom, Principal, Washington School
