Tim Schlegel Earns Prestigious NFHS Theatre Citation Award

Sterling High School theatre director Tim Schlegel has been honored with one of the highest recognitions in high school performing arts, receiving the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Theatre Citation Award.

Schlegel is among just 13 individuals nationwide selected for the 2026 NFHS Citations, an award that recognizes exceptional contributions to high school activities, including athletics and fine arts programs. National Federation of State High School Associations presents the honor annually to leaders who have demonstrated outstanding service, leadership, and commitment to students.

For more than three decades, Schlegel has built and sustained a thriving theatre program at Sterling High School, emphasizing creativity, collaboration, and student growth. His work has helped shape generations of students, providing them with opportunities to develop confidence, communication skills, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

The NFHS Citation Award is considered one of the most prestigious honors in high school activities, celebrating individuals whose careers have made a lasting impact on education-based programs across the country.

Schlegel’s recognition not only highlights his personal achievements but also shines a spotlight on the importance of fine arts education and the lasting influence of passionate educators in shaping student experiences.  His commitment and dedication to the students at Sterling High School is second to none.
