Friday, May 31 is the last day of student attendance for SPS5. The District will release early, using the same schedule as Wednesdays. Jefferson and Franklin dismissal is 2:05. Lincoln and Washington dismissal is 1:55pm. CMS dismissal is 2:00pm. SHS will follow the finals schedule. There is no preschool on May 31.

SPS Staff, Students, and Families, SPS Students and Parents, At approximately 1:34 pm today, Sterling Public School District (SPS) enacted our Crisis Plan and went into a district-wide Building Lockdown. This means students and staff stayed within their classrooms, inside the building. Please know that this lockdown was a result of a report of a suspicious person with what looked like a weapon, on a bike, near Sterling High School. Sterling Police Department responded to the call quickly and notified Sterling Public Schools at approximately 2:01 pm that it was safe to lift the district-wide Building Lockdown students and staff continued their regularly scheduled day. Due to the weather, tonight's SHS 2024 Graduation Ceremony will take place inside SHS' Musgrove Fieldhouse. The ceremony will still commence at 6:30 PM and the doors will open to the public at 5:30 PM.

SPS has released the Shelter in Place and will be resuming normal schedule. We will continue to monitor the weather. Thank you.

At approximately 11:00 am today, Sterling Public School District (SPS) enacted our Crisis Plan and went into a district-wide Limited Access Lockdown. This means students and staff can continue with their normal school day, inside the building, but we carefully monitor those entering and exiting. Please know that this lockdown was at the request of the Sterling Police Department’s (SPD) Administration, and was done so due to a SPD traffic stop near Sterling High School. The safety of our students and our staff is our number one priority, and this traffic stop unveiled some potential safety concerns, therefore, SPD requested we go into lockdown status until the investigation could be concluded. SPD believes that this is an isolated incident and that it does not pose an immediate threat to any students or staff. They also reiterated that this is an ongoing investigation and they will release more information to SPS as it becomes available. When this occurs, I will further update stakeholders.

The Sterling Public Schools Arts Department is excited to announce its inaugural Art Show, taking place from May 14th to 16th in the SHS Commons. This event will highlight artworks created by students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Visitors are encouraged to drop by between 5 pm and 8 pm before or after one of our spring concerts to admire the talents on display.
