New Math Curriculum in Grades K-5

Sterling Public Schools is transitioning to a new K-5 math curriculum at the start of the 2019-2020 school year.  The new curriculum is called Ready Mathematics and is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards.

Ready Mathematics is a research-based curriculum that prepares students for mastery of the rigorous mathematics standards. The instruction in Ready will help students learn important mathematical concepts, develop problem-solving skills, and apply what they have learned outside of the classroom. Ready will challenge students to build on their previous mathematical knowledge, learn and explore different approaches to solving problems, and strengthen their critical thinking and complex reasoning skills.

As our main mathematics program, Ready will provide teachers with the necessary instruction, practice, and assessments to help your child grow in mathematics.  We look forward to providing a learning experience that will attract and hold your child’s interest while also teaching important mathematical skills and concepts.

We are excited to use Ready to build richer classroom environments that will strengthen your child’s mathematical understanding, but we understand that using a new math program may be challenging at first for students because they are not yet familiar with the program’s instructional model and routines. If you have any questions about Ready Mathematics, especially during this early part of the school year, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school.
