Meet the Superintendent of Schools
I would like to personally welcome you to Sterling Public Schools' new website. We chose to establish our new website for two main reasons. Last year we sought feedback from our students and parents, pertaining to our website, and they informed us they desired a more professional and modern-looking website that provided up to the date information. Additionally, we were informed most of our students and parents access our website via their mobile devices. Therefore, with this information in mind, we made the change to a new website in order to improve the accuracy and timeliness of communication with our stakeholders and to create a site that was more mobile-device oriented.
We are continually seeking input and feedback from our stakeholders. This new website is no different, so if you have information that you would like to share regarding how this website could be improved, please feel free to email me at the email address provided.
Where kids achieve!
As the Superintendent of SPS, I consider it a privilege and an honor to be the leader of a district "Where kids achieve!" We believe in this slogan because it represents our true focus. Simply stated, we believe in each and every one of our students and that he or she can and will achieve.
I personally invite you to browse through our website so you can see the multiple examples and evidence of our students' achievements academically, athletically, and in the arts.
My Educational Life
I am originally from Charleston, IL. I graduated high school there, then attended Lakeland Junior College. I transferred to Eastern Illinois University where I received my BS in History and Political Science. I then later acquired my Masters and Specialist Degrees in Educational Leadership - Go Big Blue, Go EIU!
The last chapter of my educational career is still being written. After a few years as superintendent, I completed my doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Western Illinois University. After I finished as a student, I decided to change sides of the desk and proudly accepted an adjunct teaching position with WIU. For the last several years I have taught in WIU's Department of Educational Leadership. I love it and it is so rewarding, mainly because I get the privilege of working with aspiring principals and superintendents.
MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE
After college, I taught middle school and high school social studies in Kansas, IL and Robinson, IL. My wife, Cindy, and I then moved to Sterling in 1999. Since then, I have served in multiple administrative roles throughout the district, including SHS Associate Principal, CMS Principal, Director of Human Resources, and Assistant Superintendent. For the past 13 years I have proudly served as the district's superintendent of schools.
I can honestly say that I am a Golden Warrior through and through. My family lives and actively participates in this community, and all three of my children are graduates of Sterling High School. I simply love Sterling, IL and Sterling Public Schools. Go Warriors!
