College Planning Timeline

Seniors

Summer

  • Plan to retake ACT in June
  • Visit Various Schools
    • Sizes
    • Locations
    • Campus

Fall Semester

  • Meet early and often with counselor
    • Develop/Review plans
  • Retake ACT again
  • Attend College Rep visit days
  • Attend College Fairs
  • Reduce college interests to 5 to 10 by October
    • Reach/Evens/Safety
  • Fill and Send out applications
    • Make sure to note Priority Deadlines (Especially Nov. 1)
  • Have teacher and/or counselor help edit essays and personal statements
  • Begin to apply for scholarships

Spring Semester

  • Fill out FAFSA starting January 1
  • Continue applying for scholarships
  • Finish and send any last minute college applications
  • Evaluate acceptance letters and packages
  • Make visits to schools you have been accepted to
  • Notify college of your decision
  • File housing/meal plan paperwork with school you will be attending

Juniors

Summer

  • Start researching colleges and what they may be looking for

Fall Semester

  • Attend College Rep visit days
  • Start attending college fairs
  • Research colleges/careers/majors with Career Cruising

Spring Semester

  • Meet with counselor to finalize senior year classes meeting college requirements
  • Take ACT/PSAE
  • Begin contacting colleges to get information

 

Sophomores

Fall Semester

  • Work with counselor to plan schedule for a college prep workload
  • Focus on your grades

Spring Semester

  • Work with counselor to plan a junior year schedule with college prep classes
  • Take Practice ACT seriously
  • Focus on your grades

 

Freshmen

Fall Semester

  • Work with counselor to develop 4 year college prep plan
  • Take classes and grades seriously

Spring Semester

  • Take PLAN test and use it to build on your weaknesses and improve your strengths
  • Focus on your grades
