Dual Credit

Sterling High School offers the opportunity to take classes that can earn them high school and college credit or Dual Credit. Most of the Dual Credit opportunities for SHS students are through Sauk Valley Community College. The following information is for students and parents who are interested in enrolling in Dual Credit courses.

 

Important Points of Interest

  • Dual Credit courses are put on high school and college transcripts, thus all Dual Credit courses will remain on the official college transcript when transferring to any other college or university
  • Dual Credit courses and their grades are counted toward SHS AND college GPA
  • Dual Credit registration, paperwork, and payments are the responsibility of the student and family
  • Dual Credit vs. Dual Enrollment
    • Dual Credit - High school students enrolled in college also who take courses for high school and college credit
    • Dual Enrollment - High school students enrolled in college also who take courses for college credit only

Placement in Dual Credit Courses
In order to be enrolled in Dual Credit courses students must meet SVCC placement standards. If the standards are not met the course may only be taken for high school credit and will not be in the Dual Credit classroom.
